 A LOOK AT WESTERN NATIONAL IN PLYMSTOCK 1986

 April 1986 saw western National start its conversion of joint services from conventional buses to high frequency minibus services.

 Their choice of vehicle was Merecedes Benz 608d with variety of body manufacturers. Initially on the first day services were free and shadowed established joint service routes.

  Here we see Hoppa 129 C980GCV with 20 seat Potteries bodywork heading through Hooe on its way to Tapson drive on what would normally be 6 / 7 route from Saltash Passage to Turnchapel

Plymouth hoppa liveried mercedes 608d 114 C956 GAF with 20 seat Reeve Burgess bodywork on a free introductory service at the bus bay next to Hooe lake

Providing a regular service 7 to Turnchaple and Mount Batten is Bristol VRT 1154 AFJ 761T in the attractive WN Citybus livery (Come on Mr Jory you know you want to really!!!) applied to Laira based Bristol VRs and Leyland Olympians. This view taken at Broadway East

Not far behind is 1141 AFJ 706T on service 5 to Elburton

Plymouth Citybus only presence in Plymstock was the service 48 to Wembury and 49 to Heybrook bay.

 At Broadwaty west 172 TTT 172X is seen heading towards Wembury

Back in Royal Parade Mercedes 608D 125 C489 HCV with 20 seat Reeve Burgess. Followed by Leyland Atlantean AN68 171 TTT 171X in British Rail Skipper livery it carried after the end of the Great Western 150th anniversary the year before in 1985
